Useful Information

Parents and carers of children and young people with autism and Asperger’s syndrome suffer from the lack of a single place or person providing information about all of the services that we might be entitled to and that might be helpful. If your experience is like ours, you will have found out about things along the way often through good luck and your own efforts. We hope this will help.

Details are included of a whole range of services. You won’t automatically be entitled to all of them. Some won’t be relevant to your child depending on their age and their abilities/disabilities. You might not be ready to think about some services at the moment. None of us can deal with everything at once. Hold on to the information for when you are ready.

This guide was originally compiled for parents of primary-age children at Lark Hall Centre for Pupils with Autism in Lambeth, and so the information is mostly aimed at that age group. Lambeth Autism Group would like to develop further guides for Under-5’s and teenagers / adults with autism and Asperger’s syndrome, but for now, we hope that some of this information will be useful to all age groups.
